Once again, Herencia participated in activities for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, with a series of events aimed at raising awareness among the population and strongly rejecting gender-based violence.
Silent march in memory and condemnation
In the afternoon of November 25th, a silent march was held that ended at the Statue of the Abused Woman, a symbolic act that highlighted the municipality’s condemnation of this issue. The event was attended by the mayor Sergio García Navas, the councilor for Social Welfare, Conchi Rodríguez Palancas, as well as representatives from the Local Women’s Council and the Herencia Women’s Association.
Promoting education and creativity in young people
As part of the activities, the councilor for Equality, Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, awarded students from the Carrasco Alcalde and Las Mercedarias schools who participated in the 5th Short Story and Bookmark Contest against Gender-Based Violence. This initiative, organized by the Women’s Center, aims to engage students in reflecting on equality and the eradication of macho violence, promoting creativity and awareness from an early age.
A week of activities to raise awareness among all audiences
The City Council, together with the Women’s Center and the Feminist Association of Herencia, has developed a comprehensive agenda of activities around November 25th, designed to target all sectors of the population. From educational workshops to public events, the objective is to raise awareness about gender-based violence and promote values of equality and respect.
In statements made on the program Las Mañanas de Radio Surco, Councilor Aitor Gallego emphasized the importance of these activities to “continue raising awareness and providing educational tools that allow citizens, especially young people, to identify and combat attitudes and behaviors that perpetuate macho violence.”
A commitment that goes beyond commemorative dates
Herencia’s commitment to equality and the elimination of macho violence is not limited to November 25th. Through permanent programs and the involvement of educational and social institutions, the municipality strengthens its commitment to creating a fairer and more equitable society.
The active participation of the population and institutional support make these events a reflection of Herencia’s collective effort to eradicate a scourge that affects thousands of women worldwide.
