The Carnival of Herencia and its recent designation as a Cultural Heritage Asset at FITUR.

From January 21 to 26, Madrid will host a new edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), a key event for the industry where, once again, Herencia will promote its Carnival, which has recently been declared a Cultural Heritage site in the category of Intangible Heritage.

This recognition highlights the strength of a popular festival that is diverse and deeply connected to the identity of the municipality. What defines the Carnival of Herencia is its popular nature and the prominence of the street, where nearly all carnival activities take place.

In this edition, Herencia will present its Carnival as a living heritage, developed in public spaces and passed down through generations. In addition to its presence at the Castilla-La Mancha Tourism stand, the municipality will also participate in FITUR LGTBI+, where it will promote the Drag Queen Contest of the Summer Carnival, an initiative celebrating diversity that has become a hallmark of the festival.

Herencia’s participation at FITUR is further enhanced by chef Iván Anaya in Culinary Roots, showcasing Herencia cheese as the culinary ambassador of the municipality.

The Councilor for Tourism and Heritage, María Eugenia Díaz-Pacheco Galán, emphasized that “FITUR is a unique opportunity to introduce ourselves to the world and showcase the uniqueness of Herencia and its Carnival, where Intangible Heritage and Tourism converge.” She noted that this is the proposal Herencia presents at FITUR 2026, inviting those who wish to explore the municipality to join “a celebration that is a shared living heritage, meant to be experienced.”
