The author Chiki Fábregat met with young participants of the reading project “Inmortales” in a session led by two students from Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes school. The students interviewed the writer about El año de la guarida, a finalist in the competition, and guided a dynamic conversation that combined questions about the book with broader topics related to the literary craft.
In front of over a hundred young people, Fábregat shared her understanding of literature and emphasized how reading serves as a tool to interpret the world and understand their surroundings. She also discussed aspects of the creative process—from the inception of an idea to the manuscript revision—and addressed the audience’s questions regarding characters, settings, and plot development.

This was the first of three meetings scheduled as part of “Inmortales,” a participatory literary competition where the readers themselves will decide which finalist work deserves the title of “Inmortal”. With this approach, the project promotes critical reading and places young people at the center of the decision-making process, encouraging them to debate, compare opinions, and justify their vote.
The format of the session—an interview led by students, followed by a Q&A and open dialogue—fostered a close and motivating environment. The high level of participation and audience engagement highlighted the interest in young adult literature and the appeal of a competition that combines the reading experience with direct contact with authors.
“Inmortales” will continue in the coming weeks with new meetings dedicated to the other two finalist works, before the final voting by the reading jury. Initiatives like this solidify a space for literary education, critical thinking, and the promotion of reading habits among youth.
