Green light for the new Health Center in Herencia: the Board awards the construction contract for 5.4 million euros.

The future building, covering over 2,180 square meters, will serve more than 8,400 health cards from the Basic Health Area and will replace outdated facilities. Construction is set to begin in November and will last for 16 months.

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has officially awarded the contract for the construction of the new Health Center in Herencia, with a budget of approximately 5.4 million euros. This initiative will provide the municipality with larger and modern healthcare facilities tailored to the current and future needs of its residents.

This news was announced this morning by Blanca Fernández, the regional delegate in Ciudad Real province, who highlighted the significance of the project: “Today we are officially awarding the construction of the Health Center in Herencia for 5.4 million euros, which will allow us to have a new facility with the most modern healthcare infrastructure, including 2,200 square meters dedicated to healthcare services for the 8,400 health cards in this area.”

The delegate described the award as “a milestone for the regional government,” emphasizing that the current facilities are “extremely outdated.” She explained that if the timelines are met, construction will commence in November and will take 16 months, at which point Herencia will have a new Health Center, “something that is undoubtedly a source of joy for everyone.”

A Building Designed for Expanded Services

The new center, with over 2,180 square meters of space, will cater to a Basic Health Area that includes more than 8,400 health cards. Its construction will replace the existing facilities, which have become insufficient due to the increased demand for services and healthcare activities in recent years.

The future building will feature five Family Medicine consultation rooms and five nursing rooms, as well as specific areas for pediatrics, blood draws, dentistry, physiotherapy, midwifery, and social work. It will also include dedicated spaces for the Continuous Care Point with separate access for scheduled and urgent care, as well as areas designated for teaching and logistical support.

This investment reflects the Government of Castilla-La Mancha’s commitment to strengthening Primary Care in the region, ensuring that the improvements in public health extend to both urban municipalities and rural areas, alongside the integration of new professionals and services with enhanced infrastructure.

The construction has been awarded to the company Barroso Nava and CIA, SA (BANASA), with plans to start work next November.

The Mayor Highlights “A Decisive Step” for the Town

The Mayor of Herencia, Sergio García-Navas, expressed his satisfaction with this “decisive step” that is about to become a reality. “The new Health Center is essential so that residents receive better Primary Care and so that healthcare professionals can work in optimal conditions. This is a very important project for the growth of the healthcare sector in our municipality,” he stated.

The mayor added that to continue building “the Herencia we want for the present and future,” this step is necessary, just as the transition “from the Cultural House to the Municipal Auditorium was, a measure that was heavily criticized by some, similar to the current situation, by those with other intentions beyond improving the lives of our residents, which is my only true purpose.”
