Herencia hosts the 15th Quijote Handball Cup with over 400 participants.

Herencia will once again be the meeting point for youth handball next week with the celebration of the Quijote’s Handball Cup 2026, the 15th Handball Tournament of Herencia. The competition will take place from June 18 to 21 and will bring together more than 400 participants over four days in an established event on the local sports calendar.

The tournament is being organized in collaboration with the Herencia Handball Club and the Municipal Sports Service of the Town Hall. Additionally, it has the support of the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government, the Regional Handball Federation, and the Provincial Government of Ciudad Real, as well as official sponsorship from Grupo Tubyder.

Four Days of Handball and Community

The Quijote’s Handball Cup enters its fifteenth edition with a program filled with matches, teams, families, and a sporting atmosphere. Over four days, the town will welcome clubs from various locations, including Maracena, Veleta, Almassora, Amibal, Pozuelo, Valdepeñas, Alcázar de San Juan, Villarta, and Villafranca.

The participation of over 400 players highlights the tournament’s ability to attract participants, showcasing its growth alongside Herencia’s handball scene. Beyond competition, such events foster camaraderie among teams, boost local activity, and give young athletes the chance to share experiences with rivals from other towns and regions.

Handball remains significant in Herencia thanks to the efforts of the local club, sports schools, and families supporting players throughout the season. Hosting a tournament of this nature allows for an intense and enjoyable conclusion to the sporting year, catering to both competitive and recreational aspects of the sport.

Poster Presentation

The poster presentation featured the mayor of Herencia, Sergio García-Navas; the local club president, Pedro Rodríguez; and Juanra Ramírez, manager of Grupo Tubyder, the tournament’s official sponsor. This event aimed to unveil another edition of a competition that will once again place the municipality on the regional handball map.

The tournament’s branding features a recognizable aesthetic, incorporating elements from the Quixote universe and reflecting the sporting nature of the event. Named the Quijote’s Handball Cup, the championship blends local identity, sports promotion, and participation from various clubs.

The organizers encourage residents and fans to support the teams during the competition days and to celebrate this event as a festival of Herencia’s handball. The presence of numerous players, coaches, and families will turn the tournament into one of the most significant sports moments of June in the municipality.

A Tournament with Local Importance

The continuity of the Quijote’s Handball Cup across fifteen editions demonstrates the persistent effort of the Herencia sports community. Not all tournaments manage to sustain themselves over time, and doing so requires organization, institutional collaboration, support from sponsors, and an active sports base.

The role of the Herencia Handball Club and the Municipal Sports Service is crucial in coordinating such a large event. The collaboration from institutions and sports organizations also enhances the tournament’s impact and ensures a positive experience for visiting teams and local players.

Moreover, the event promotes sports among children and young people. Watching numerous teams compete in the locality helps create role models, sparks interest in the sport, and reinforces the idea that grassroots athletics is an essential part of community life.

Thus, Herencia is gearing up for four days of handball, camaraderie, and sporting spirit. From June 18 to 21, the Quijote’s Handball Cup will once again gather hundreds of participants around a competition that is now an integral part of the municipality’s sports identity.
