From April 23rd to 24th, Herencia becomes the focal point for the study and promotion of heritage with the celebration of the IV Cultural Heritage Conference under the theme “Cultural Heritage, Material and Intangible.” This initiative is organized by the Provincial Delegation of Education, Culture, and Sports of Ciudad Real, in collaboration with the local City Council and the Regional Center for Teacher Training.
These conferences highlight the diverse heritage of Castilla-La Mancha, using the town of Herencia, its surroundings, and historical-artistic evolution as a reference point. The program pays special attention to the legacy of the Mercedarian Order, local monumental heritage, and the processes of conservation and enhancement of cultural assets.
The event is aimed at active teachers in publicly funded non-university education, with the goal of providing them with tools and resources to integrate cultural heritage into their educational work, both in and out of the classroom.
The inauguration of this fourth edition featured the attendance of the mayor, Sergio García-Navas, and the provincial delegate for Education, Culture, and Sports, José Jesús Caro. During his speech, Caro emphasized the regional government’s commitment to teacher training, noting that over 4,000 training activities have been launched this school year, involving nearly 100,000 participants.
Caro also highlighted that Herencia offers an ideal setting for such initiatives due to its rich heritage, expressing confidence in the success of the conference and gratitude for the council’s involvement in its organization.
The mayor underscored the role of the educational community in preserving local traditions, stating, “If today Herencia keeps its heritage alive and celebrates events like Carnival or its cuisine, it’s also thanks to the work of teachers, who instill a love for our roots.”
The conference continues this Friday with new sessions focused on the analysis, conservation, and dissemination of cultural heritage, solidifying its position as a leading space for training and knowledge exchange among education professionals.
