With the upcoming olive harvest campaign on the horizon, the Herencia City Council has intensified maintenance and improvement work on the rural roads of the municipality. Mayor Sergio García-Navas and the Rural Development Councillor, Mª Eugenia Díaz-Pacheco, have personally supervised the progress of the work aimed at ensuring accessibility and safety for farmers during this busy season.
This action plan, supported by machinery and personnel from the Comsermancha Services Consortium, has focused on the Los Jarales area, a key access point to the region’s agricultural farms. The work carried out includes improving the road surface, compacting the pavement, and providing materials to reinforce deteriorated sections, thus allowing safer transit for agricultural machinery and heavy vehicles during the campaign.
In total, interventions have been made on 14 kilometers of roads connecting Villarrubia with Puerto Lápice, as well as sections of Campanarejos, El Serijo, El Allozar, and the Caseta de Mahon road. These routes, essential for Herencia’s agricultural activity, were significantly worn, which could have complicated transit during such a crucial season for the local farmers.
Díaz-Pacheco highlighted the importance of these actions, emphasizing that “it is essential to ensure that the roads are in optimal conditions, especially during peak transit times such as the olive harvest campaign, thus avoiding premature deterioration of the roads and facilitating the work of our farmers.” Additionally, the councilor recalled the government team’s commitment to the rural sector, reflected in the XI Agriculture and Livestock Conference currently taking place in Herencia, a regional benchmark that provides training and information to industry professionals.
Improving rural roads in Herencia is part of the ongoing plan of the City Council to support the local agricultural and livestock sector, ensuring well-maintained infrastructure and promoting events that enhance rural development. “Our goal is to provide farmers and livestock breeders with the best tools possible to carry out their work, from training to infrastructure maintenance,” added García-Navas.
The implementation of these initiatives demonstrates the council’s commitment to rural development, ensuring that farmers have the best conditions for the success of their campaigns and the well-being of agricultural farms in the municipality.
