The cultural event “Torpe, You Don’t Know Me” returns to the Drumming Week of the Herencia Carnival.

The Herencia Carnival kicks off this February with one of its most anticipated events: the return of the XIII Cultural Days “Torpe, you don’t know me”. This event has become a staple of the Drum Week and aims to delve into the roots, characters, and significance of the Carnaval de Ánimas.

The activities will take place at the “El Casino” hall and will feature two sessions, both starting at 8:00 PM. These sessions will explore two complementary perspectives on tradition: generational transmission and the symbolic and religious dimensions linked to the carnival’s imagery.

Program

  • Monday, February 9 (8:00 PM)
Talk and discussion: “The jinetas, small guardians of the Herencia Carnival”
Featuring Ana Belén Fernández de la Puebla and Beatriz Pérez de Bustos, this discussion focuses on the role of jinetas as key figures in the continuity of the carnival.
  • Tuesday, February 10 (8:00 PM)
Lecture: “The souls of purgatory: mystery of purification and hope”
Presented by José Luis Jiménez Manzaneque, parish priest of Herencia, this talk connects tradition, beliefs, and the cultural significance of these celebrations.

A week to understand what we celebrate

With this new edition, the Cultural Days once again provide a platform to understand the history of the carnival beyond just the festivities, in a particularly noteworthy year following the recognition of the Herencia Carnival as a Cultural Heritage of Interest in the category of Intangible Heritage.

Moreover, within the same cultural context, the exhibition “Herencia, where time becomes Carnival” continues at the Agustín Úbeda Exhibition Hall, open from January 31 to February 17, between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Carnival days.
