The Hermógenes Rodríguez Institute awards the X Unforgettable Recognition to María Teresa Fernández-Caballero, entrepreneur and poet.

The auditorium of IES Hermógenes Rodríguez once again filled with emotion during the presentation of the X Unforgettable Recognition. This event, now well-established in the school’s calendar, honored María Teresa Fernández-Caballero Moreno-Manzanaro, a resident of Herencia whose life story combines hard work, character, and sensitivity.

This recognition highlights life stories that leave a mark, and in this tenth edition, the institute aimed to spotlight a figure representing “the strength of Herencia” through two distinct yet interconnected realms: the ability to reinvent oneself and forge new paths.

Pioneering Entrepreneur: Commerce and Family in Difficult Times

One reason for this honor is her role as a businesswoman. At a time when entrepreneurship posed additional challenges for women, María Teresa—along with her sister—managed to launch her own business in Fuenlabrada, balancing work with family life. Her perseverance and determination serve as a remarkable example, and over the years, her journey has also represented breaking barriers when opportunities were not always equal for everyone.

Poetry as a Second Life: Verses After Retirement

The award also highlighted her personal and creative dimension: her connection to poetry. After retirement, María Teresa discovered in poetry a way to express her emotions, memories, and thoughts, turning writing into a crucial new phase of her life.

Additionally, the event featured a significant symbolic element: it was the first time in a decade that the Unforgettable Recognition directly acknowledged a literary discipline. This gesture reinforces the message that talent can blossom at any stage in life, emphasizing that it’s never too late to find one’s own voice.

A Conversational Interview and a Generational Bridge

The tribute took on an intimate format through a conversational interview where the honoree shared her experiences and reflections. The most special moment came when students from 2nd year of Bachillerato read some of her poems, creating a generational bridge through words and turning the recognition into both an educational and emotional experience for everyone present in the auditorium.

With this X Unforgettable Recognition, IES Hermógenes Rodríguez once again demonstrates that school is also a place to celebrate memory and local role models: individuals who have paved their way through hard work, courage, and culture, leaving a legacy worth sharing.
