The renovation works on the road between Herencia and Villarta de San Juan have begun.

The Works and Infrastructure Department of the City Council of Ciudad Real has launched an ambitious renovation project on the CR-1342 road, which connects the towns of Herencia and Villarta de San Juan. This section, essential for local and regional traffic, will undergo a complete remodeling to improve the safety and durability of the road. The third vice president of the City Council, Miguel Ángel Ruiz Rodríguez, personally supervised the start of the works, which began this morning.

With a length of 12.5 kilometers, the CR-1342 road has a route characterized by dangerous curves and drainage problems that affect driver safety. In addition, its current state poses a particular challenge for heavy vehicles that use this road as access to National Highway IV. To address these difficulties, the improvement project includes the elimination of five sharp curves and the addition of 50-centimeter safety berms on both sides of the road.

Improved Drainage and Safety

One of the key points of the works is the improvement of drainage, which will include the adaptation of ditches and the elevation of certain sections of the road to prevent flooding during heavy rain episodes. In addition, a new layer of asphalt mix will be applied, significantly improving the quality of the pavement, enabling a more comfortable and safer driving experience. Along with this, the road signage will be completely renewed, increasing visibility and safety throughout the route.

The project, initially budgeted at 2,798,095.78 euros, has finally been awarded to the company Antonio Miguel Alonso e Hijos S.L. for an amount of 2,273,254.91 euros, after an 18.76% discount in the tender. The works include the use of 14,500 tons of hot asphalt mix and the installation of 16,600 cubic meters of artificial aggregate to reinforce the berms and elevated sections. Additionally, 1,200 linear meters of concrete-lined ditches will be installed and 63 safety devices will be placed in strategic points along the road. In total, 41,000 linear meters of road markings will be renewed.

Impact on the Region and Mobility

With a Daily Average Traffic (DAT) exceeding 1,000 vehicles, many of them heavy, this road is a key artery for mobility between Herencia and Villarta de San Juan. The improvements will not only increase driver safety but also facilitate the transportation of goods and the mobility of residents of both towns. It is expected that the works will continue over the coming months, transforming this important section and modernizing the road infrastructure of the region.

The start of these works represents a crucial advancement in improving communications in the province of Ciudad Real, guaranteeing greater safety and comfort for all road users.
