Last weekend, the benjamin and prebenjamin teams of the Sports Handball Schools of Herencia participated in a day of the Pitufos Globalcaja Circuit, held at the Rey Juan Carlos Sports Center in Ciudad Real. In this event, more than 350 children between 6 and 11 years old from different towns in Castilla-La Mancha came together to enjoy a morning of sports, learning, and coexistence, where the score on the board was the least important.
The Pitufos Circuit, an initiative promoted by the Handball Federation of Castilla-La Mancha (FBMCLM) and sponsored by Globalcaja, had the support of the Provincial Council and the City Council of Ciudad Real. The day allowed young athletes from clubs such as Caserío, Alarcos, Pío XII, and Marianistas, from Ciudad Real, as well as from towns like Poblete, Malagón, Bolaños, Herencia, Pedro Muñoz, and Villarrobledo, to enjoy continuous handball matches in a relaxed and enthusiastic atmosphere.
The event took place on nine simultaneous courts, where teams played matches of 10 minutes in duration, a dynamic that allowed children to play continuously and in a safe environment. This format aims to promote teamwork, fair play, and a passion for sports from an early age.
For the teams from Herencia, this day was much more than a competition. Both the young players and their coaches highlighted the value of the experience of coexistence with other boys and girls from the region. “We are proud of the work and effort of our kids, who have not only learned and improved, but have also greatly enjoyed this day,” the coaches commented. The Herencia club congratulated the participants and encouraged them to continue enjoying handball as an opportunity for growth and fun.
Jesus Rodríguez Madridejos, president of FBMCLM, highlighted the enthusiasm of the young athletes, whom he described as the “seed of future champions.” “It’s a pleasure to see so many children playing with the excitement they do; handball is a beautiful sport, and once we capture them from a young age, most of them continue on this path,” Rodríguez Madridejos said.
On the other hand, Pau Beltrán, Sports Councillor of Ciudad Real, expressed his satisfaction at once again hosting the Pitufos Circuit in the city. “These kids learn to move, to work as a team, and to develop a sports spirit. Their families can enjoy watching their 10-minute matches, and we support handball, one of the main sports in our capital,” Beltrán noted, recalling that this is the first of the season’s days in which Ciudad Real opens its doors to this event.
With these initiatives, the Pitufos Globalcaja Circuit continues to establish itself as a space where young athletes not only practice sports but also develop fundamental values for their personal development, an approach that demonstrates the region’s commitment to the growth of handball among the youngest.
