The Senior Center of Herencia opens registrations for its Summer Course.

Here’s the translation:

The Herencia Senior Center will launch its Summer Course 2026 on Wednesday, July 1, a program designed to keep people over 60 active during July and August. The offering includes five activities that will primarily take place in the morning and combine physical exercise, cognitive stimulation, hiking, and digital training.

Registration will be done in person at the Senior Center, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The days of June 15 and 16 will be reserved for the Active Mind and Adapted Gymnastics activities, while registration for Pool Gymnastics, Hiking, and Connected Seniors will open on June 17 and 18.

The Herencia City Council has informed that priority will be given to residents of the municipality. If there are any remaining spots, they may be filled by non-residents who have a residence in Herencia.

Five Proposals for an Active Summer

The program includes activities with different levels of intensity and objectives. Active Mind, priced at 5 euros per month, is aimed at working on memory, attention, and other cognitive abilities through dynamics adapted for older adults. Four groups are offered: Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, 10:00 to 11:00 AM, and 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, plus a fourth group on Monday and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 AM.

The Adapted Gymnastics, also with a fee of 5 euros per month, will allow for physical exercise adjusted to participants’ needs. There will be groups on Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM and 10:30 to 11:30 AM, and two more on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM and 10:00 to 11:00 AM.

The Pool Gymnastics will also cost 5 euros per month and will be organized into two groups: Monday and Wednesday from 12:15 to 1:15 PM, and Tuesday and Thursday at the same time. This activity is particularly suitable for working on mobility and physical exercise in a friendlier environment for the joints.

Free Hiking and Digital Training

The Summer Course also includes two free proposals. The first is Hiking, which will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. This activity will help maintain a physical routine outdoors during the early hours of the morning, avoiding the hottest times of the day.

The second is Connected Seniors: Manage Your Mobile and Computer, a free activity focused on improving the digital autonomy of older adults. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. The goal is to help participants navigate better with devices and tools that are part of daily life, from mobile phone use to basic procedures or digital communication.

The inclusion of this activity responds to an increasingly common need. Many everyday tasks are already conducted through applications, websites, or electronic services, so learning to handle these tools can facilitate relationships with administrations, banking entities, health services, or family members.

Active Aging and Community Participation

The summer program at the Senior Center not only aims to fill the mornings of July and August. It also promotes healthy habits, community living, and social participation. Activities such as gymnastics, hiking, or memory workshops help maintain routines, improve well-being, and strengthen bonds among participants.

The beginning of the course on July 1 will allow for continuity of the center’s activities during the summer period. The variety of proposals makes it easier for each person to choose the option that best suits their interests, physical condition, or availability.

The City Council encourages interested older adults to register within the established deadlines, as priority will be given to residents, and spots will depend on the availability of each group.
