The Herencia City Council, through the Culture Department, has announced the opening of the 43rd edition of the National Painting Competition ‘Jesús Madero,’ one of the municipality’s most established cultural initiatives and a well-established event in the national artistic scene.
The competition will once again bring together artists from various parts of Spain and will award a total of €6,100 in prizes. With this initiative, the City Council aims to continue promoting artistic creation, recognize the work of participants, and expand the municipal pictorial heritage with new artworks.
The call is open to artists over 18 years old residing anywhere in Spain. Each participant may submit a maximum of two original works, with no limitations on theme or technique, allowing for a wide range of styles and ideas.
The competition maintains two participation channels introduced in recent editions. One is a national channel that allows digital registration, with works undergoing a preliminary selection phase. The other is a local channel for artists born or residing in Herencia, who can submit their work in person.
This specific mode aims to facilitate participation from local creators and reinforce the City Council’s commitment to local artistic talent.
For the national category, registration will remain open until August 17. Interested artists must formalize their participation through the digital platform MundoArti. Once registration closes, a specialized jury will select the finalist works that will be part of the exhibition and compete for various prizes.
The financial allocation for this edition reaches €6,100, thanks to contributions from the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real, the company Tecnove, and the City Council of Herencia itself, which will sponsor two of the awards to acknowledge the quality, creativity, and originality of the submitted works.
After more than four decades of history, the National Painting Competition ‘Jesús Madero’ has become a reference point for promoting the visual arts. Each year, it attracts artists from different autonomous communities and positions Herencia as a meeting place for those working in contemporary painting.
The selected works will be on display at the ‘Agustín Úbeda’ Exhibition Hall from September 18 to 27. The awards ceremony will take place on September 23, coinciding with the inaugural event of the Herencia Fair and Festivals.
Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, the Culture Councillor, has encouraged artists from across the nation to submit their works and be part of a competition that continues to gain recognition over the years. He also highlighted the importance of the competition in solidifying Herencia as a municipality committed to culture, creativity, and various artistic expressions.
In the previous edition, the competition received a total of 40 entries, reflecting the ongoing interest this national showcase generates among creators and painting enthusiasts.
