The Agustín Úbeda Exhibition Hall opened its doors yesterday, becoming the heart of living memory for the municipality with the exhibition “Heritage, Where Time Becomes Carnival”. This showcase explores the intangible legacy of the festival following its recent designation as Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the category of Intangible Heritage.
The opening ceremony was led by Mayor Sergio García-Navas, who emphasized that the Carnival of Herencia “is not just an annual celebration but a legacy that defines our collective identity.” He was joined by José Ángel Fernández-Caballero, representing the Carnival of Herencia D.O. Association, who expressed gratitude to the associations and individuals that contributed costumes, photographs, lyrics, and audiovisual archives: “This museum belongs to the whole community.”
What to See in the Exhibition
The itinerary offers an immersive experience revisiting milestones, characters, and symbols of the Carnival—masks, melodies, songs, and giant figures. It integrates textile and audiovisual pieces, alongside references to flavors and sounds that have accompanied the festival for generations. The exhibition presents visitors with a collective narrative: Carnival as a living heritage that is learned, shared, and passed down.
