The Mayor of Herencia, Sergio García-Navas, and the Councilor for Youth, Aitor Gallego, held a working meeting with the mini municipal corporation, which consists of the mini mayor and the child councilors who were elected last December during the commemorative events of the Constitution Day.
This meeting is part of a project initiated by the Town Council with a clear goal: to give a voice to the children of the municipality and encourage active participation from young people in public life, not just as spectators, but as engaged contributors to building the Herencia of today and the future.
Ideas and Concerns from a Child’s Perspective
During the session, the members of the mini corporation had the opportunity to express their concerns, share ideas, and propose solutions on issues they consider important for both children and the wider community. The meeting took place in an atmosphere of active listening and collaboration, providing space for each representative to speak and explain their views.
These types of meetings aim to ensure that children’s participation is not merely symbolic, but a genuine process: learning how an institution operates, understanding the responsibilities of a Town Council, and simultaneously offering suggestions from a unique perspective—often more direct and practical.
An Exercise in Belonging and Responsibility
The Town Council particularly values the tone of the meeting, where the mini corporation demonstrated a strong sense of belonging to Herencia and a sense of responsibility, offering suggestions and reflections that help build a community that is more inclusive, participatory, and attentive to the needs of all generations.
Through initiatives like this, Herencia reinforces the message that civic participation is learned from an early age: listening, dialogue, proposing, and understanding that public decisions are often shaped by small contributions that stem from everyday experiences.
