Herencia coordinates the special security device for the May Romerías.

This week, the Herencia Town Hall hosted a meeting of the Local Security Board aimed at planning the special operational measures for the upcoming Romerías, scheduled for May 16 and 30. The meeting was led by Mayor Sergio García-Navas and took place in the council chamber.

The gathering was intended to coordinate the human and material resources necessary to ensure the smooth running of one of the municipality’s most deeply rooted traditions. Various aspects related to security, mobility, emergency prevention, and the organization of the planned events were discussed.

Key measures considered include bolstering regular surveillance in the municipality, with a presence from the Local Police and Civil Guard, as well as traffic planning for the festive days. A special bus service has also been arranged with varying schedules from 1:30 PM to 6:00 AM to facilitate transportation and ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy the Romerías more peacefully.

The operational plan will pay particular attention to the Paraje de la Pedriza and the Nature Classroom, areas that will host much of the activity during these celebrations. A unified medical station will be set up at the latter location, staffed by Civil Protection and the Red Cross, ready to respond to any emergencies that may arise during the events.

Although this year the Romerías are spaced further apart on the calendar, with events on May 16 and 30, attendees will be allowed to make fires in designated areas. This measure will encourage participation in various culinary contests, all within authorized spaces and under established safety conditions.

Mayor Sergio García-Navas emphasized the importance of prior coordination among administrations, security forces, and emergency services. “We aim to continue working from a position of coordination and responsibility to protect our traditions and the people who participate in them,” he stated.

The Local Security Board also included participation from Citizen Security Councilor Serafín Tajuelo and Culture and Youth Councilor Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana. Additionally, representatives from Citizen Security of the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government, Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection, the town hall secretary, and municipal technical staff involved in organizing the Romerías were present.

Through this operational plan, Herencia aims to balance the festive celebration with the safety of all attendees, enhancing prevention and coordination among the various services involved. The Romerías will once again bring together residents, associations, and visitors around a traditional event that forms an essential part of the municipality’s cultural identity.
