Agustín is celebrating 30 years of pilgrimage from Herencia to Andújar for the Virgin of La Cabeza.

Some traditions don’t need grand headlines to be significant. One such tradition is that of Agustín, a resident of Herencia, who has been walking to Andújar (Jaén) for three decades to participate in the annual pilgrimage of the Virgen de la Cabeza during the same dates each year.

This story has recently made it to the screen thanks to a report aired on “Ancha es Castilla-La Mancha” (CMM), which follows the group for part of their journey, highlighting the effort, camaraderie, and sense of community that develops step by step.

Nine Pilgrims, One Destination

This year, the pilgrimage consists of nine residents from various municipalities, who share the path, experiences, and a common goal of reaching Andújar to meet the Virgen de la Cabeza upon arrival.

The report (lasting 2 minutes and 59 seconds) captures a walk filled with determination and emotion: the weight of years, fidelity to a familiar route, and the personal significance each person carries in their backpack.

Faith, Effort, and Friendship

Beyond the religious aspect, this pilgrimage is also a story of perseverance. Maintaining such a commitment for 30 years is no coincidence; it requires preparation, endurance, and, above all, a group that supports and looks after one another. One key insight evident in the video is the value of walking together.

With initiatives like this, Herencia reemerges in the regional spotlight from a uniquely local perspective: one of traditions celebrated with simplicity yet with a strength that transcends generations.
