The Popular University of Herencia concludes the term with folk music, theater, culture, and dance.

The Popular University of Herencia will close the 2025/2026 academic year with a special program running from May 31 to June 6. During these days, the work done by students across various disciplines offered throughout the year will be showcased outside the classroom for neighbors, family, and the general public.

The Herencia City Council, through its Popular University, has prepared an agenda that combines folklore, exhibitions, theater, a cultural trip to Madrid, and a dance festival as the grand finale. The initiative aims to highlight the creativity, learning, and engagement of participants in a educational and cultural project that continues to be one of the major social references in the municipality.

The program will kick off on Sunday, May 31, coinciding with the celebration of the Day of Castilla-La Mancha. This day will also be especially festive in Herencia, as events will take place in La Pedriza in honor of the Romería of the Virgin of the Head.

In this significant context for the town, and on a date marked by Manchego identity, a folk festival will take place starting at 1:00 PM, featuring performances by groups from the Popular University. It will be an opportunity to enjoy music, dance, and popular traditions in an emblematic space for the residents of Herencia.

Later that afternoon, activities will move to the Municipal Auditorium, where the end-of-year exhibition will be inaugurated. Attendees will be able to see works and projects completed in various artistic workshops at the Popular University over the recent months. This exhibition will provide insight into the results of the hard work, evolution, and creativity of the students.

The day on May 31 will conclude with a theatrical performance. Starting at 6:30 PM, the theater groups of the Popular University will present the play Things That Happen, showcasing the work carried out throughout the course in this performing arts discipline.

The programming will continue on Thursday, June 4, with a cultural proposal outside the municipality. Participants will travel to Madrid to visit the exhibition Hair of the Storm, a tribute to Francisco Nieva, and take a guided tour of the Literary Quarter. This activity aims to immerse attendees in Madrid’s cultural life and expand their educational experience beyond the classroom.

The program will conclude on Saturday, June 6, with the dance festival Two Worlds, One Passion. In this performance, the dance groups of the Popular University will blend ballet and Spanish dance, promising to fill the stage with art, emotion, and local talent. This event will serve as a fitting finale to a term in which students will once again demonstrate all they have learned.

Registration for the cultural trip to Madrid will open on Thursday, May 21, and can be done through the Herencia APP. On the same day, in the afternoon, tickets for the Dance Festival will also go on sale at the Casa de Cultura for 3 euros.

The councilman in charge of the area, Aitor Gallego de la Sacristana, has emphasized the enthusiasm with which students and teachers are preparing for the course closure. He also highlighted the importance of the Popular University in the cultural and social life of Herencia, an initiative that “engages over 1,000 people in each edition.”

Gallego de la Sacristana further noted that the Popular University is nearing its 40th anniversary, having established itself as “a place for gathering, meeting, and learning.” In this regard, he pointed out that, despite the passage of time, efforts are ongoing to create innovative programs and proposals tailored to the needs and preferences of users.

After this closing event, coinciding with the start of the summer vacation, the City Council will present the new offering of workshops and activities for the summer in the coming weeks, aiming to further enrich the cultural, educational, and social agenda of the municipality.
